We are excited to see our Art in the Alley project growing by leaps and bounds! Inspired by the beautiful plantings, Keep Virginia Beautiful awarded us a grant to create a rotating art installation. This year, we are adding more art, a mural, and a community chalkboard. Join us as we take The Bay School out into the community so everyone can experience art up close!

Our Outreach Committee is looking for outdoor artwork submissions for their Art in the Alley public art project. This alley project is an artwork installation partially funded by a Keep Virginia Beautiful Green Grant as part of their Community Beautification projects and programs. The purpose of our presence is part of a campaign to beautify areas of interest and create a new artistic pathway and destination for those in the community. The alley is located across the street from The Bay School, in between Storybound Construction and The Vintage Pearl and The Bean Spot in the old Farmers and Fishermens Building on Main Street, and crosses from Main Street to Court Street. Artwork will need to be weather-resistant, suitable for being outside for a prolonged period of time. We are accepting both 2D and low relief 3D works with an emphasis on larger scales pieces for visual effect. Artwork will be displayed outdoors for six months and available for purchase via commission in The Bay School’s Art Speaks Gallery. Artist’s name, artwork title, and a QR code to the website listing will be displayed with the artwork. | ![]() This mural design by local artist Selena Zuhoski will be transferred to mural cloth during a series of workshops, open to the public to participate. The mural cloth will then be adhered to the alley wall of the Farmers and Fishermen Building, closest to Main Street. Stay tuned for dates and registration info. |
Farther down the alley on the Farmers and Fishermen side, we will be installing a community chalkboard with a handmde tile border. Businesses and individuals may purchase a tile to customize. You have the option of decorating and glazing it yourself for $100 or having Bay School artists paint your design or transfer your logo onto the tile for $150. Stop by to fill out your order form or download here. Email completed forms to sgsoles@bayschool-arts.com. |
